This was a fun and entertaining read。 I loved both of the lead characters。 This is a great book to read when you want something light and interesting。Miss Eleonore Halversham is the epitome of a prim and proper school mistresses。 Or is she? She has a past that might shock some, but she’s worked hard to keep that past secret。 As far as most living know, she’s the perfect person to lead a seminary for proper young ladies。 And she has plans for that seminary。Marcus Downing-Smith, Duke of Rochford, This was a fun and entertaining read。 I loved both of the lead characters。 This is a great book to read when you want something light and interesting。Miss Eleonore Halversham is the epitome of a prim and proper school mistresses。 Or is she? Miss Hilversham has great plans to expand her seminary to the house next door - but just as she's saved the required money to purchase it, it's sold from under her。 And not to just anybody: to the Wicked Duke, who riles her up in every way, including declaring his intentions to start a gambling hell in the house。 But she's not going to give up easily - whatever might be required to drive him away, she'll try (short of anything illegal, of course)。 Then tragedy strikes and shows each of them a ne Miss Hilversham has great plans to expand her seminary to the house next door - but just as she's saved the required money to purchase it, it's sold from under her。 And not to just anybody: to the Wicked Duke, who riles her up in every way, including declaring his intentions to start a gambling hell in the house。 But she's not going to give up easily - whatever might be required to drive him away, she'll try (short of anything illegal, of course)。 Then tragedy strikes and shows each of them a new side of the other。 Can tragedy lead to a happy ending? This was a sweet, at times humorous story of two people who start off thinking the worst of each other but gradually learn to see their true characters。 Probably not in any way a new idea - but I really enjoyed how it was done, and appreciated the way the author unfolded their respective characters。 Add in an ancient secret coming to light at last and some practical jokes on either side, and I felt that this book had really been worth the read。 Interesting characters, fun dialogue, the odd minor mystery and a satisfying ending - what more could one want?Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author。 I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book。 。。。more
Emma,
An amazingly sweet clean story of a headmistress of a school for girls and her new neighbor The Wicked Duke。 I admired Eleonore/Violette for all she had lived through and came out on the other end a strong loving woman。 But when it came to the duke Marcus who provoked her like no other, she always had a sharp word and witty repartee。 Marcus and Eleonore became instant enemies。 I had to laugh at the pranks they played on each other。 It led to Marcus rescuing several children and Eleonore when the An amazingly sweet clean story of a headmistress of a school for girls and her new neighbor The Wicked Duke。 I admired Eleonore/Violette for all she had lived through and came out on the other end a strong loving woman。 But when it came to the duke Marcus who provoked her like no other, she always had a sharp word and witty repartee。 Marcus and Eleonore became instant enemies。 I had to laugh at the pranks they played on each other。 It led to Marcus rescuing several children and Eleonore when the school was engulfed in flames。 Eleonore did not know what she was to do。 Thankfully Marcus was there for her。 When she needed someone the most he was there。 Then secrets were revealed, wounds opened and healing started。 Reunions long overdue happened and a wish at the wishing well came true。 A lovely story with wonderful characters that tell a realistic story ends happily for all。I received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review。Reasons I enjoyed this book:Easy-to-readEntertainingFunnyHappily Ever AfterRealisticUnpredictableWittyWonderful characters 。。。more

Miss Eleonore Haversham of the Seminary for Young Ladies in Bath plans to enlarge the Seminary。 But her plans are thwarted by a Pesky Duke who bought the property next door when she thought she had first refusal。 Sparks fly as she encounters Marcus, Duke of Rochford。Sophi Laporte does a fantastic job of keeping me reading by twists and turns。 A great read!

Declare war of course。 Miss Hilversham and the Pesky Duke is a quick read, filled with depth, character growth, and an enemies to lovers romance for the ages。From previous reads, the Duke of Rockford, Marcus Downing-Smith, is a villain and capital R Rake。 He was a complex character that seemed to have more layers than he let on。 I loved the fact that this was explored in his own story。 From disliked villain to charming, albeit flirtatious, hero, Marcus’ redemption came in the form of the formidable, by the book, headmistress Eleonore Hilversham。 Both characters love deeply and it was good to see them recognize that quality in each other。 The plot itself tackles some serious points but the overall tone is light hearted。 Eleonore and Marcus were mature characters, able to discuss difficult topics and work through them together which only impressed me more given the novel itself is short。 Although a quick read, it is a fulfilling and enjoyable one。 The ending felt complete and I would look forward to seeing Marcus and Eleonore again in future installments (Really hoping for this!) I would recommend this book to all readers who want a little bit of everything in their stories。 The wishing well seminary is a spin off of the Wishing well series, how ever you can read this as a stand alone。 But I recommend reading the wishing well series to get a full understanding of the characters and their growth。 And they are all great! I received complementary copy of this book but my opinion and review is my own。 。。。more

What a delightful book! A lovely story (no spoilers) and SO well written。 It was a joy to "meet" people we'd already been introduced to in the Wishing Well series and get to know them even better。 Sofi has a good understanding of the period she writes about and the story had an authentic feel about it。 Looking forward to the next instalment in the series。(I had the privilege of receiving an ARC of this book。) What a delightful book! I loved Eleonore and Marcus's story。 They throughly deserved their happy ending and it was wonderfully topped off with the discovery of the child that she gave up for adoption at birth。 I'm glad that they kept the old school building as well as the new one。 I loved Eleonore and Marcus's story。 They throughly deserved their happy ending and it was wonderfully topped off with the discovery of the child that she gave up for adoption at birth。 I'm glad that they kept the old school building as well as the new one。 。。。more
